Milo's the Plane

Advertising a bar near SMU, of all things. Underwater or in the sky?

VIsion

The black and white lines take on different patterns depending on the zoom level. Visual processing at its finest!

Conductor

New Year's Eve concert, Dallas Symphony Orchestra, 2010.

Cloudy

Trees can be so grandiose with the right perspective.

13 January 2011

Leaf

I think 'red' is the theme of the Douglass trip.

11 January 2011

Red

The soil really is that color. Not the best on the shoes, though.

Want

Back to the photos from the Douglass trip - I realize I said "series" and then interrupted it, but anyway, here we go.

This is in an antique shop in Nacogdoches, TX, where I was taunted by overpriced records, old cameras, and this glorious machine.

Katrina

One image from a photo series called "After Katrina" by Richard Misrach, at the Houston Museum of Fine Arts, with a ghostly self portrait to boot.

Last phone photo for now!

Sunset?

Seen from Greenville in Dallas. No idea what caused this. Anyone have any ideas?

(Another phone photo - I finally download a bunch from my phone, and I'm diggin' some of them.)

Update - father's explanation: "I think this is sun setting behind an object that stands out on the horizon, such as a very tall building. You can see the same effect watching sunrise in Jerusalem, before the sun emerges from behind the mountains on the other side of the Dead Sea. In the Talmud, it is poetically referred to as 'pillar of the dawn.'"

At the Dentist's

If only the entire experience was as enjoyable as the view.

(Taken with my phone.)

05 January 2011

Red

Lots of nature out there in the middle of nowhere.

Douglass, TX.

Old Stuff Too

Herein begin photos from my trip into the middle of nowhere, aka Douglass, Texas.

This is Tyler, TX, I believe. I enjoy this photo, despite the dirty car window smudges.

More Colors

The med center is oh-so-festive around the holidays.

28 December 2010

Sorry

I know it's been a while since I've updated, which is doubly unfortunate since I'm on break. I just had some unexpected stuff to take care of... I'll be back in a few days!

So It Goes

“‘The most important thing I learned on Tralfamadore was that when a person dies he only appears to die. He is still very much alive in the past, so it is very silly for people to cry at his funeral. All moments, past, present, and future, always have existed, always will exist.’”

"All this happened, more or less."

-Kurt Vonnegut, Slaughterhouse Five

RIP TG

Eerie

Wouldn't the med center be the perfect staging ground for a zombie apocalypse?

15 December 2010

Spin

Bonus points for guessing the record! (Hint: the color may help.)

Dawgs

It was a friendly battle, I swear!

08 December 2010

Oof

Done with 5 out of 9 tests now. The rest have a full day off in between, which is why I'm somewhat back.
Also, I do now have a project planned for winter break. I won't give it away yet, but it will involve another person and a film camera. I'll leave it at that.

01 December 2010

Bye

No, not the Elliott Smith song, but, it's tests + finals now (9 tests in 15 days?), so I'll be a bit... absent until December 18th. I'll try to make up for it by doing some kind of photo project during break, although what kind I cannot say.

(This is one of my very first forays into photography, a good five years ago, and is in keeping with my blurry-mind-before-exams theme.)

25 November 2010

Nola

Has nothing to do with Thanksgiving, but oh well.
Happy Thanksgiving!

21 November 2010

(Disputed) King of the Pond

The original king of the pond from two posts down is still visible.

20 November 2010

Horse

This statue is made out of bronze... I have no idea how it looks like that. Touching was not allowed.

Outside of the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston.

16 November 2010

Chopper

CareFlight helicopter taking off from the roof of Hermann Hospital, seen from Hermann Park. The park is so very close to the med center, I'm amazed I hadn't been there before November.

Plane

Inspired more or less by the photo below from the 1970s of Philip Petit walking a tightrope connecting the Twin Towers (which in itself I first heard about in Colum McCann's excellent novel Let the Great World Spin.)

(This photo found here.)
